Becoming an effective academic leader requires more than expertise, it takes self-awareness, communication, and the ability to guide others through challenge and change. My programs combine theory and practice to help you in Making A Difference (MAD) in your leadership and supervision roles.

 

Whether you are a new supervisor, an experienced group leader, or an academic navigating complex team dynamics, these offerings are designed to strengthen your leadership skills, enhance collaboration, and foster healthier, more productive research environments.

Academic Leadership Workshop 
(1-2 hours)

A series of thematic workshops covering different aspects of supervision are offered as required. Learn both the theoretical foundation to understand the issues, as well as practical skills to enable you to succeed.

 

1. The process of Doctoral Education - The major decisions and points of consideration for students and supervisors throughout the process from recruitment to thesis examination are mapped in time and discussed.

 

2. Professional Conduct as Supervisor - 10 aspects of successful and professional activities in the role of supervisor of doctoral candidates are analyzed.

 

3. Monitoring Progress and Examination - How to use ILOs to continually assess progress within an individual PhD training programme as well as how to examine ILOs formally during thesis defence are taught. 

 

4. Conflict Management & Prevention - The theory and practice of both conflict management as well as conflict prevention are discussed.

 

5. Communication Skills - Effective communication, with emphasis on inter-cultural aspects, is the focus of this module.

 

6. Feedback - How to give and receive professional feedback – theory and practice.

Personal supervisor coaching
(1 hour)

Receive personalized, one-on-one coaching focused on leadership development. Tailored strategies to enhance your leadership skills whether you are at the start of your career or are an experienced professional.

Backstage Group Coaching
(16 hours)

 

Participate in a dynamic online group coaching workshop in which each person will be the specific focus of one of the 8 coaching sessions. In these Backstage groups participants will coach one another, discuss challenges, complex situations and questions related to their position as research group leaders. The Backstage group will deeply dive into and dissect the challenge you describe, and you will be coached to attain understanding of the cause of your issue, as well as to understand strategies to resolve it and prevent reoccurrence. Ideal for university settings and group development initiatives. The work in the Backstage groups is confidential.

Conflict resolution

 

If you are experiencing a workplace conflict situation that you cannot resolve, I can offer you 20 years of experience of conflict resolution to dissect your challenge and suggest different courses of action. In addition, I will focus on identifying ways you can prevent conflicts occurring in the future. Focus is on taking professional responsibility, communication and leadership skills.
